Neighborhood Scavenger Hunt Bingo

Since everyone is practicing social distancing, I created a fun Neighborhood Scavenger Hunt Bingo activity for the kids.

I made a 5x5 chart on some computer paper and filled it in with simple drawings of objects in our neighborhood.

The teddy bear, hearts, and chalk drawings are because the neighborhood has posted about putting those objects in your window for kids to go on a "bear hunt" or write inspirational sayings with chalk to hopefully uplift the spirits of neighbors walking by. The Easter Decor is because Easter is just around the corner!

I'm sure you know how to go on a scavenger hunt or how to play Bingo but just in case someone doesn't, here is what you do:

1. Print off the scavenger hunt OR make your own - more card filler ideas below

2. Go outside and go for a walk.
Don't mind the kids mix match clothes. It was chilly so we quickly grabbed sweaters.

3. Find the scavenger hunt objects. Have your kid point out the objects they find as they go.

4. Mark the objects off on your Scavenger Hunt Bingo card.
Your kid can use a pencil, pen, marker, or anything you have on hand to mark off the objects they find. My kids used Bingo paint markers.

5. Find five objects in a row to win BINGO! or find ALL the objects to win FILL CARD!

If you have more than one kid, the first one to find five of the objects in a row wins! If you want to make it harder, the first to find all of the objects wins! Your siblings can NOT use the same object as you.

Example: If you find a door hanger first and call it out, your sibling has to find a different door hanger to mark it off.

Parents you may have to be the final decision maker aka "referee" on who gets to mark off the object if they spot the object at the same time.

This is a fun and easy game to play with your kids. It's a simple way to get outside, get some fresh air and have some family time on your walk. It is also a fun way to explore your neighborhood and social distance yourself from others.

I printed off two scavenger hunts and we went on a walk until someone filled their card. It was boys against girls. My husband and I waited until one of the kids got BINGO to help the kids out if needed. My daughter was the first to get BINGO but in the end, the boys filled their card and won by one. Since everyone "technically" won, they each got a cookie after lunch as their price!

We found a ton of stars and teddy bears on our walk along with door hangers, welcome signs, and bright colored doors. Since it was gloomy from the rain, we had trouble finding an animal shaped cloud, a heart, and surprisingly a bug.

You can print off a copy of the scavenger hunt I made HERE or you can make your own.

If you are making your own, you can change the objects to better suit your neighborhood. Try not to use easy objects like a house, car, or tree. Make the scavenger hunt a little harder by specifying certain objects like an orange leaf, blue door, or flying bug. If not, the scavenger hunt may quickly be over. Also, keep the age of your kids in mind.

For younger kids, keep it simple - rock, bug, brown leaf, yellow flower

For older kids, give them more of a challenge - spotted animal, rose bush, No Trespassing Sign

If you don't like my printable or want to make a few different ones with the objects in different locations to give your kids a variety, some other objects you can include in your scavenger hunt are:

  • Flower Pot
  • Bird House
  • Bird Bath
  • Kids Toy
  • Bike
  • "Y" shape tree branch
  • Tree Roots
  • Garden
  • Fire Wood
  • Fire Pit
  • Porch Swing
  • Trampoline
  • Basketball Goal
  • Green Mailbox
  • Stone Mailbox
  • Package at Someone's Door
  • Flat Tire
  • License Plate from a different state
  • Sports Team Logo
  • Broken Blind
  • Glass Door
  • Birds Nest
  • Spider Web
  • Flying Bug
  • Squirrel
  • Rabbit
  • Cat
  • Butterfly
  • Dog Leash
  • "Beware of Dog" Sign
  • "Not Trespassing" Sign
  • Road Sign
  • Traffic Cone
  • Mushroom
  • Litter

Keep in mind that every neighborhood is different. If you live in the country, you may have different objects than if you live in the city. If you have younger kids, you may have different objects than if you have older kids.

This is just a simple scavenger hunt I made for my kids that fits their ages and our neighborhood at this point in time.

Since I drew the pictures, it may not print out perfect as this is a scanned copy of my drawings but it works! You can download the FREE PRINTABLE HERE!!!

Hope you enjoyed this post and activity. I'd love to know what your kids think and see pictures of your Scavenger Hunt Bingo. You can share your pictures under the "Tried It" section on Pinterest HERE!
