My husband decided on a camping theme for his classroom this year (check it out HERE) and to go along with the theme, he decided to make some cute, rustic pencil holders. I was busy cutting out some of the other decorations for his classroom so he get full credit for this craft!
The pencil holders aka twine holders are pretty easy to make and can be used for several things. He is personally going to use them to hold pencils since he is a teacher but they can also hold markers, crayons, paint brushes or scissors in your classroom. Don't have a classroom? That's not a problem, I will show you some other ways you can use the twine holder around the house but first let me show you how my husband made this cute decoration!

Supplies:
- Thick Twine - we purchased our twine from Hobby Lobby, don't forget to use the 40% off coupon
- Formula Can or other tin container
- Hot Glue Gun & Glue Sticks
NOTE: One roll of twine made five containers.
How To:
1. Place a dab of hot glue at the bottom of the container jar and place the end of the twine on top of it.
2. Start to hot glue and wrap the twine around the container.
3. Continue to hot glue and wrap the twine around the container until you read the top of the container. Make sure you use enough hot glue to secure the twine.
4. When you make it to the top, cut the twine and secure the end of twine with a dab of hot glue.
5. Fill the container with whatever you would like and enjoy your newly decorated container!

The twine holder is a quick, easy and cheap craft to help spice up your classroom. We paid a total of $3.81 for the roll of twine and were able to make five containers. We already had the hot glue and saved the formula cans instead of trashing them. Like I said before this is a cute way to spice up your classroom instead of the boring old pencil holder and if you don't have a classroom or don't need a pencil holder, here are some alternative ways to use the twine holder:
- The twine holder would also make for a cute decoration or centerpiece for a wedding or party, just put some flowers in it and wha-la.
- Hold Utensils for a party
I used the twine holders as utensil holders for my son's Construction Birthday Party
- Hold remotes
- Hold your toothbrush and toothpaste
- Hold hair brushes, combs, curling iron (when not hot)
- Fill it up with hair ties, head bands, hair clips and the hair accessories
- Hold kitchen supplies such as your spatulas
- Keep the lid and give it as a gift full of cookies or candy
- Storage for your plastic bags
- Use it in the garage as a cute way to store nails, screws or other small objects
- Don't forgot you can fill it with pencils, pens, markers, crayons or paint brushes
I'm sure there are several other ways you can use the twine holder around the house or in your classroom so feel free to comment below with how you are going to use it. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial!
