LulaRoe Part 2: Leggings - sizes, styling tips, legging hacks, Q&A

This is part 2 of a series of blogs I am writing on LulaRoe and the products they make. This blog is going to focus on LulaRoe leggings - sizes, what shoes to wear with them and different ways to style them. No I am not a LulaRoe consultant or a LulaRoe expert and I did not partner with any LulaRoe consultant for these blogs. I just have several of their items and am going to share my opinion about the items I have in hopes of helping you decide whether or not to try that item and if so, what size you may need. 

Before we get started I want to say that these picture were taken 3.5 months postpartum with my third baby in three years and I am hoping to lose some of my baby weight but in hopes of helping you figure out what size you need, I am 5'7, roughly 150 pounds and currently wear a size 9 in jeans (Juniors section), 8/10 in most dresses. On average I wear a Large from the Juniors section and a Small or Medium in the Women's section depending on how it's made.

LulaRoe has several different styles but they are most know for their leggings. Their leggings are super soft, comfortable and stretchy. Several people are calling their leggings "butter" due to their buttery softness and if you haven't tried a pair yet, take it from me, they definitely are super soft. According to LulaRoe's website, "They’re as close to your own skin as you can get with all the perks of, ahem, not being naked." 

LulaRoe leggings are designed to comfortably wrap around your body thus creating a smooth appearance, hiding any rolls or cellulite you may have no matter your size and body shape. The waistband and stretchy material helps the leggings to comfortably move with your body throughout the day making them great for family feasts, buffets or those days you are a little more bloated than others. LulaRoe leggings are all made from the same material, polyester and spandex. This combination is what makes the leggings soft and stretchy thus making them great for any occasion. You can dress the leggings up or you can dress the leggings down. 

LulaRoe leggings are very versatile as they come in thousands of different patterns and colors. LulaRoe has solid leggings, leggings with floral, paisley and geometric patterns on them; polka dots and strips, cats, dogs, wolves, bears, pizza, popcorn, fries, butterflies, snakes, buffalo heads, mountains, trees, cameras, pencils, soccer balls, etc... on them. There is a crazy amount of unique patterns on LulaRoe leggings and several of the LulaRoe leggings sell themselves because they are considered "unicorns". 

In the world of LulaRoe, a unicorn is considered a highly sought after pattern. The holiday leggings, animals and black leggings are the most popular unicorn leggings as of now. LulaRoe clothing is unique because they only produce about 2,500 items in a specific print so if you happen to come across a pattern you like I recommend buying it because once it is gone, it may be gone forever.

LulaRoe leggings come in five different sizes:

• S/M fits sizes 2-8 - $23
• L/XL fits sizes 8-12 - $23
• TWEEN fits sizes 00-0 (Kids size 10-2Petite) - $23
• One Size (OS) fits sizes 2-12 - $25
• Tall & Curvy (TC) fits sizes 10-24 - $25
• Tall & Curvy 2 (TC2) fits 18+ - $25 Released July/August 2017

LulaRoe also has athletic leggings. I have yet to try them, but by my understanding they they range from XS-2XL in size, are made of a different fabric and come with a reflector logo on the back so you can be spotted at night.

LulaRoe leggings are suppose to be sold exclusively through LulaRoe fashion consultants but you can find several people selling them on ebay at jacked up prices - definitely not worth it when you can buy the same item for $25 from a consultant. I can technically wear both OS and TC leggings as I am in the in-between sizes for height (if you are 5'7 to 5'9 you can most likely fit in both sizes length wise). OS leggings fit me better for the most part but I love the length of the TC leggings. Since I am hoping to lose some baby weight I am planning on sticking to OS. If you are slender and under 5'9 I would probably go with OS. If you are short and curvy or are slender and 5'10 or taller I would go with TC as they fit several different body types, they just might be a little long or a little big in the waste. The lengths and widths of the leggings slightly vary depending on where they are made but for the most part they are as listed in the picture to the right. Hopefully the picture helps you decide if the leggings will be long enough for you or your child. Keep in mind the leggings are made from a stretchy material and can stretch to fit different body types if needed.  Don't forget you can always ask a consultant to help you find a size that works best for you. 

LulaRoe's leggings come from all over the world. I have leggings made in USA, China, Vietnam, Mexico and Indonesia. This shouldn't, but does play a roll in sizing. It is rumored that USA and Mexico add a little extra fabric when making their products where as Vietnam is a little less generous and I hate to say it but it is true for the most part. Out of six Vietnam made leggings, three have been to tight and to short on me, and one was just to short. Keep in mind I am 5'7 though and the average woman is 5'4 so you may not run into this problem. When purchasing any LulaRoe item, I highly recommend asking the consultant where that specific item is made and if it runs true to size to help give you a better understanding of how it might fit that way you don't end up wasting your money on an item that may or may not fit... the joys of shopping online.

What if my leggings are damaged?

Once you receive your Lularoe you need to try it on and check it for holes as several consultants have strict return policies. Hopefully you won't run into this problem but there have been several leggings sold with tiny holes in them. I could be totally off but LulaRoe products are suppose to be handmade so I'm guessing most of the holes come from the fabric catching on  sewing needles or scissors but who knows. 

If you receive a LulaRoe product with holes in it I recommend contacting the consultant you purchased them from and asking if you can exchange them. By my understanding LulaRoe consultants can get reimbursed for damaged products if they send in proof so they are usually more than happy to let you pick out another pair. 

Since several of the patterns are unique and consultants don't get to pick their patterns, the chance of you getting the same pair is slim but hopefully they will have another pattern you like. If for some reason the consultant won't let you exchange your leggings you can always wear them under a pair of distressed jeans or double them up with another pair of leggings for warmth (*see picture below of pattern over solid leggings.) If your leggings appear fine then great! Just follow the care instructions and treat them like panty hose instead of jeans when putting them on and you should be fine!

I've read that LulaRoe supposedly only has a 1% product defective rate but I personally do not believe that because I know several people that have come in contact with damaged LulaRoe leggings.

1. The pair of leggings pictured had two holes in them that I am aware of. Luckily I was able to return them but unfortunately they didn't have another maroon pair. 
2. My mom went to wear her first pair for the first time and noticed holes in the legs. I told her to return them but she said that my sister had worn them so she may have hit them on something so she decided to sew them. 
3. My grandmother was out and about when she noticed hers had several bigger holes in the side of them. She went home and sewed them and said that it's not noticeable because it blended in with the pattern. 
4. My husband's cousin was also disappointed in the leggings. She was able to snag a pair of Christmas leggings and they tore in the crotch within an hour of her wearing them. She said they were cheaply made. 

There are at least four mini stories of some leggings I know that have been defective. Yes you will always run into problems with any company that sells anything so don't let that keep you from trying the product for yourself. Yes I have gotten a defective pair along with my mom and grandma but that hasn't stopped us from purchasing more. Make sure to check out your LulaRoe when you get it and treat them like you would panty hose to keep them nice and if you happen to get a defective pair, contact the consultant, after all they wouldn't have a business if they made their costumers mad!

How do LulaRoe leggings fit?

Like I said be before, LulaRoe leggings fit differently depending on where they are made. So far I've noticed that the solid leggings run a little smaller/bigger than the pattern leggings. Out of six solid pairs of leggings, two fit bigger, two fit perfect, but one had holes in it and the other two were to small. I also noticed that some of the solid leggings aren't as thick as some of the pattern leggings. If you look at the picture below you can see that the leggings are all different lengths. All four of these legging are OS. In the first picture (maroon & black) the band comes up to just below my belly button and if you look closely you can see them bunched up at the bottom. In the second picture (tribal) the leggings are about half an inch lower than the first pair and are perfect length. These fit me the best. Unfortunately the last two are too small. They are both fresh out of the package, never washed and made in Vietnam. They both are tight in my hip area and are a lot shorter than the other OS leggings I have. I'm hoping the leggings in the last picture were miss labeled TWEEN leggings and not OS.

The TC leggings also come in a variety of sizes just like the OS leggings. I'm 5'7 and as you can tell in the picture below, three of the four leggings are two to four inches above my belly button and the fourth pair set right at my belly button. The first picture (paisley) is shorter length wise but a lot wider in the hips. The third picture (shapes) is a lot longer than the other TC, setting just below my chest but it isn't as wide as the other leggings. 

The last leggings are part of the 2017 Holiday Valentine's legging collection. I haven't hear much about other holiday leggings sizes but I heard that the Valentine's leggings ran small just in time to order TC instead of OS and I'm glad I did. LulaRoe advertised the Valentine's leggings as their normal sizes but several consultants advertised them as  OS fits 0-8 and TC fits 10-20. Again, I fall right in the middle size wise, but I'm glad I sized up and got a TC in Valentine's leggings as they are my favorite fit so far.

Do they really only come in two adult sizes? 

UPDATE: Lularoe released Tall & Curvy 2 (TC2) leggings that will fit size 18+. These leggings will cost $25 plus taxes and shipping. They were announced at the end of July 2017.

Yes. LulaRoe has five six different size leggings but they only come in two adult sizes as of now, One Size (OS) and Tall and Curvy (TC). Adult leggings cost $25 plus taxes and shipping. I wish LulaRoe had more than two adult sizes and I'm sure I'm not the only one. OS is suppose to comfortably fit sizes 2-10 and some 12. TC is suppose to comfortably fit sizes 10-22 and some 24. Yes the legging material is stretchy and does stretch to fit different body types but not all slender people are short and not all curvy people are tall.  

According to Google's question and answers, the average woman in the United States as of 2010 is 5'4 and a size 12-14. I specified my search a little more and found out that as of September 2016, several studies showed that the average woman is a size 16-18. If you are close to my size (5'7 size 9) then you happen to fall in-between sizes and neither size fits you just right. I you are the average American woman then you would need a size that's not even available in LulaRoe's leggings. I personally think LulaRoe needs to rethink their sizes, nix the TWEEN leggings and add another adult size if not two: OS, TS (Tall Size), TC and SC (Short&Curvy) or just a Curvy size based on the average American woman's size.

Are there any hacks if the leggings are to big? 

There are a couple different hacks you can do if your leggings are to big. It's really just a matter of how far you want to go with it and how big the leggings are on you. 

• Fold the waist band down. I like to fold my waistband down on the outside but you can also fold it inward. This will help the leggings to be a little tighter in your waist and not be as long in your torso.
• Pull and Fold the side of the leggings by your hip to your liking and pin it with a large safety pin.
• Dry them in the dryer on high heat a couple times and see if they shrink. I dried a pair of mine once and didn't have any luck shrinking them. I would be careful though when drying leggings as they may start pilling, tear or fade.
• Add a belt: Add a belt as is, Pull and Fold the side of the leggings by your hips to your liking and add a belt, roll the waistband down and add a belt.
• If all else fails and you know how to sew you can take them in yourself or hire a seamstress.
• If the leggings are to long you can flip the bottoms under, scrunch them up, roll the bottoms up or tight roll them if they are super baggy and long. *see How to style leggings picture below
• If you don't like rolling the leggings all the time and you know how to sew you can hem them yourself or hire a seamstress.

How do you style your LulaRoe leggings?

There are several different ways to style your leggings. You can dress them up by adding a nice shirt, dress, heels and accessories or dress them down by pairing them with a t-shirt or hoodie to better suit the occasion. You can also create different lengths with your leggings to better suit the weather. There are several different ways to style your whole outfit but here are a couple different ways to just style you leggings. 

Different ways to style the bottom of your leggings:

• Wear them as is. 
• Tuck them into boots. 
• Fold them under so they look more like capris.
• Roll them up - you can make the rolls thin or thick.
• Scrunch them up. 

Different ways to style your leggings:

• Wear them as is.
• Double them up by placing a pattern pair of leggings over a solid pair of leggings and roll the bottoms. 
• Double them up by placing a solid over a pattern. You will need a darker color solid because you can see through some of the lighter colors. You will also need to put the pattern leggings on inside out in order to see the pattern when rolled.
• Wear them under a pair of distressed jeans to add a little color.
• Wear a pair of fishnet stockings over a pair of solid leggings to create a cool look.

What shoes do you wear with your LulaRoe leggings? 

I've seen friends on social media and been asked myself what shoes to wear with leggings other than boot, well the answer is.... any shoes you want! That's right, you can wear whatever style shoe you feel matches and looks good with your leggings. 

Shoes can literally make or break an outfit but leggings are so versatile that you can pretty much wear any kind of shoe you want depending on what style you are going for. Below I've paired my leggings with boot, different colors and heights; boots with legg warmers - high or low, converse, tennis shoes, sperrys, vans, flats, heels, sandals and flip flops. You can also pair them with booties, wedges, high top converse, toms, etc... the options are endless. Match your shoe color to your leggings, roll or tuck under your leggings to give it a different  look. 

Pictured below are LulaRoe leggings paired with eleven different kinds of shoes. My favorite way to wear LulaRoe leggings is with my high boots (my favorite pair is not pictured... no idea why!) and rolled with my tennis shoes.

Can kids wear LulaRoe leggings?

Yes! Like I said above, LulaRoe has five sizes and three of those are kids sizes (S/M, L/XL & TWEEN). S/M fits sizes 2-8, L/XL fits sizes 8-12 and TWEEN fits sizes 00-0 (Kids size 10-2Petite). The kid's leggings cost $23 plus taxes and shipping. Yes $23 may sound expensive for kids leggings but if you think about it, the kids leggings should fit your children for three to five years depending on how fast they grow where as most other kids leggings and pants in general only fit them for a year. Now there is always the possibility of damaging the leggings since kids play but hopefully they will last.

LulaRoe kids leggings are just as versatile as the adult leggings and made for both boys and girls. You can even hack a pair of S/M leggings to fit a baby if you want!*see below I've seen several bright solid and pattern leggings for kids that work for both genders. I've seen  kids leggings with dinosaur, cars, paper planes, balloons, bicycles, car tracks, shoes, cupcakes, donuts, pizza, feathers, puzzle pieces, etc... on them; I've even seen a couple floating around that mimic Avengers and Spiderman.

UPDATE: I came up with a new way to hack adult leggings to fit a toddler. I haven't seen this one floating around the LulaRoe world yet as of June 2017 but that doesn't mean it's not out there. Basically you turn your leggings into a romper. My daughter is three years old but she is tall for her age so I had to use a pair of TC leggings because the OS weren't long enough in her torso. Put the leggings on your child and use a hair tie to tie the excess in the front or the back and you are done. This hack should work for children four and under but will not work for every child as ever child is built differently.

Does LulaRoe sell Mommy & Me sets?

Yes. Some Consultant's sell Mommy & Me sets if they are lucky enough to get adult and kid items that match. Mommy & Me sets consist of adult leggings and kids leggings or an adult top that matches kids leggings or a kids top that matches adult leggings. Basically any adult item and any kid item that is the same color or pattern. Keep in mind that the consultants do not get to pick the colors and patterns they get so not every consultant will have Mommy & Me sets. The picture to the right are two sets my daughter and I have that match. They don't match perfect but it's good enough for me! There are several cuter patterns out there that match, we just don't have any yet.

UPDATE: LulaRoe released Mommy & Me sets in the spring of 2017 just in time for Easter. They released several sets of Carly/Scarlett, Irma/Gracie and leggings that consisted of matching patterns. The majority of the patterns consisted of pastel colors and floral prints.

How do you hack leggings to fit a baby?

First you need a pair of LulaRoe S/M leggings and a baby. Then you need to turn them inside out and place the legs on your baby. After the legs are over your baby, flip the leggings right side out and pull them up to your baby's waist. Adjust the material as needed until it looks right. You can even cuff or roll the bottom of the leggings to give it a different look. Hacking the leggings to fit your baby is perfect if you come across your unicorn Mommy & Me leggings but can't wait for your little one to fit in 2T. It also makes them perfect for winter as it adds an extra layer of thickness for warmth. My little guy is 4 months and wearing a solid S/M in this picture!

Can guys wear LulaRoe leggings? 

Yes! Although LulaRoe leggings are geared more toward women based off of their patterns, guys can still wear their leggings. I have yet to see any men wearing LulaRoe leggings in public but I have been told by one who's wife is a consultant that he wore them under his jeans in the winter to help keep him warm since he was outside a lot. If you google "LulaRoe leggings for guys" a couple pictures will pop up but just incase, I talked my awesome husband into trying on a pair of TC leggings.  He admitted that they were comfortable and soft but he wouldn't wear them out. I'm sure if it was for a Halloween costume he would, but thats besides the point. LulaRoe has yet to release a men's legging line probably because a lot of men wouldn't wear them and men are less likely to join online shopping groups than women are but I have seen some solids and patterns that match different sports team colors and other leggings with popcorn, pizza, fish, screws, bicycles, race cars, old cars, camp, elephants, wolves and deer on them that men could possibly wear if they were interested.

For laughs: My three year old daughter just pointed to this picture and said, "Look Daddy is wearing your pants".

Pros & Cons?

Everybody's Pro's and Con's are different but from talking to a few friends and my personal views here is what I have come up with. These Pros and Cons are for LulaRoe LEGGINGS ONLY.

Pros:

• Super soft and stretchy
• Comfortable
• Huge variety of colors and patterns
• Versatile
• Unique Patterns - the chance of running into someone with the same pair is slim
• Finally leggings for bigger body builds
• Gives off smooth look and hides cellulite
• Confidence Booster 

Cons:

• Price - can buy cheaper leggings other places
• Get holes in them and tear easy
• Lack of sizes
• Washing Instructions - they can get damaged in the washer or dryer
• Not positive if they will fit as they are all made different
• Some are thinner than others - you can see through the light colors and pastel leggings
• Don't like shopping online
• Majority of patterns are not very flattering and don't match anything in my wardrobe

Hopefully this blog helped you get a better understanding of what LulaRoe leggings are, how they fit and different ways to hack or style your leggings. Overall I would recommend giving LulaRoe leggings a try if you can afford them. If you are still unsure, then visit a "pop up" boutique in your area and try some on then go online and join a bunch of consultant's groups and enter contest in hopes of winning a pair or Lulacash that way if you end up not liking them or their products, you aren't out as much money, if any.
