Do you like to shop? Do you go to the grocery store often? Do you like saving money? If you answered yes to any of those questions then keep reading if you don't like saving money then this post isn't for you.

As a family of five on one income, money is tight so any extra money goes a long way especially when your toddlers eat and eat and eat. Since I became a stay-at-home mom, I try to help out financially by finding and using cash back apps.

There are tons of different apps out there and over the past three years I have tried a handful of them. Some I gave up on because they were not worth the hassle and others I have stuck with.

Get a free $10 when you redeem your first receipt using my referral code. Ibotta's referral amount is always changing so for both the person signing up and referring so this may not be the case, but it's worth checking out!

Ibotta is different from other cash back apps because it offers cash back on grocery stores, retail stores, liquor stores and online shopping. Ibotta also offers Bonus rewards and team work bonuses.

Ibotta offers cash back on several products and even any brand products. The products vary by store. Basically you find a product you want to redeem, compete a task to add it to your list, buy that product then take a picture of your receipt or scan the QR code and scan the product bar codes and submit it. The money will be added to your Ibotta account and you can cash out with PayPal or a gift card when you reach $20.

One perk of Ibotta is that you can use a coupon when purchasing the product in the store plus receive the Ibotta saving on top of the coupon. You can also stack certain products and redeem that cash back for more than one of the same item. Another perk is that you can refer friends and get paid when they make their first qualify purchase. If you use my referral code, ewnccsc when you sign up you will get a free $10 when you redeem your first receipt. (amount subject to change)

Ibotta is my favorite cash back app so far. I have saved $400 in the three years I have been a member. I know if you spread that out over the three years, it doesn't sound like a lot but I tend to shop store brand products so imagine how much higher that number would be if I bought name brand on a regular basis. Also that is money I get back that I would of never gotten back if I didn't use the app. Ibotta has been slacking on their any brand items lately but I am hoping that will change soon.

Referral Code: DM3AF
You will get 2,000 bonus points when you redeem your first receipt using my referral code.

Fetch Rewards is one of the newest cash back apps. It started out as MobiSave but some how became Fetch Rewards. Fetch Rewards is based on a point system. Purchase name brand products that are on their list, take a picture of your receipt and wait while they fetch your reward points.

You can exchange your points for gift cards. Gift cards start out at 3,000 points ($3) and go up. Brands include Gatorade, Heinz, Bagel Bites, Cool Whip, Country Time, Axe, Dove and more!

So far I really like Fetch Rewards. It is super easy to redeem points and if you use my referral code, DM3AF you will get 1,500 bonus points when you redeem your first receipt (amount subject to change).

The app is very easy to use. You don't have to select the brands you purchase, it automatically finds them, just double check that it found all of the brands because it has missed a few purchases so I had to add them myself. A perk is that you can add any grocery store receipt and still get a few points if nothing qualifies.

Receipt Hog
Receipt Hog will accept almost every receipt. You upload a picture of your receipts to the app within a two week period to receive coins, sweepstakes entries, and slot spins. Slot spins are just a way to earn more coins.

The coins can be redeemed for cash via PapPal or Amazon gift cards. I believe you can upload any receipt - grocery, restaurant, clothing store, etc... as long as nobody else has uploaded the receipt. Depending on the receipt scanned depends on what you receive.

Grocery, Liquor, pet, toy, etc... usually give you coins.
Clothing stores, home good, etc... usually give you slot spins.

When I created my account, Receipt Hog informed me that due to a mass amount of interest, not everybody will be approved but I don't know how long that will last.

Coupons.com App
UPDATE: As of July 2023 Coupons app switched to Shopmium. It works pretty much the same. I personally didn't have much luck with the Coupons app and they are very strict with their coupons. They must be clipped before you buy.

Coupons.com now has an app. It is nothing fancy but it works.

Basically you clip the coupons you think you will use BEFORE you go shopping (you must clip them before or it will not work) then upload a picture of your receipt and select the coupons you want to use.

It takes several days but if your purchase qualifies then you will receive the coupon balance in your PayPal account. You cannot use any other discount on the purchase or it will not work.

So far the app looks like it really only works for Walmart, Meijer, and Target since Kroger has it's own coupon app.

The app DOES NOT have all the coupons that are available at coupons.com. A perk is that you can save ink since you don't have to print out the coupons anymore. Another perk is that the app randomly offers free items such as eggs, bread, fruit, etc. You must purchase the item and they will reimburse you for the item up to a certain amount thus making it free.

I  recently downloaded SavingStar and so far I haven't had much luck but I do tend to buy off brand products so that's probably why.

SavingStar looks like a promising cash back app. They offer cash back on several name brand products from Clorox to Pillsbury to Ritz, Starbuck and Kellogg's. You select the offers you want to redeem, link your store cards to the app or upload a picture of the receipt and cash out when you reach $5.

I downloaded Checkout51 three years ago and didn't have much luck. I recently heard that it had more items on it so decided to give it another try but yet again haven't had much luck.

Most of the products on the app have to be purchased at certain stores or you have to purchase more than one of the product. The other products are items that you wouldn't or at least I wouldn't normally purchase.

Occasionally they will have items such as fruit, bread or diapers but they go fast. Basically you star what item you are going to purchase, purchase it, take a picture of your receipt and select what you purchased. You can cash out when you reach $20.

I unfortunately have yet to reach that amount and I check it every time I go to the grocery stop. Checkout51 is worth a try but I personally would not recommend it. Hopefully you will have better luck than I have.

Walmart Savings Catcher
*Walmart stopped using Savings Catcher May 2019
Walmart is know for having the lowest prices around but if that was true then why do they need this app? After you shop at Walmart, scan the QR code on your receipt into the app within a week.

Walmart will then match all the items you purchased to local ads and give you the difference. You use to be able to redeem the money in a Walmart gift card via email but Walmart Savings Catcher recently changed that and now sends the difference straight to the app so you can scan the barcode to redeem it whenever you want.

Target Circle
Target recently went from Cartwheel to Target Circle. The last few times I shopped at Target, I had money appear under the "Target Circle earnings" section in my app wallet. I was able to use this money on future trips to Target. I'm not 100% sure how it all works yet but worth checking out if you shop at Target. It looks like Target Circle also has coupons and discounts you can add as well. Make sure you scan your barcode at checkout.

There are several other cash back apps you can download and try, theses are just the main ones I have tested out. It can be very time consuming if you try to use to many cash back apps at once and sometime seems like a lot of work for a few cents but it never hurts to try at least one or two of them, after all, every penny counts in today's society.

I personally like Ibotta, Fetch Rewards and Receipt Hog the best. Checkout51 and SavingsStar are my least favorite.

Cash Back websites for online shoppers:

Ebates Rakuten
Ebates Rakuten is a browser extension that gives you a percentage back from your online purchases. Ebates Rakuten also sometimes shows you coupon codes that can be used on the website you are on. Install the Cash Back Button extension to your browser so it will automatically pop up when you come across a website that qualifies.

You must activate the percent back before you pay. The percent back will be added to your account and a check will be sent to you quarterly if you have more than $5 in your account. Ebates Rakuten also offers in-store cash back on a limited amount of stores. You enter your credit card information so it registers when you shop in-store and gives you a percent back.

Check the list to see if you shop at any of them before you add your card information. The percentage back varies depending on where you are shopping and the day. I have seen 1% cash back at Walmart and I've seen 15% cash back at Walmart on different days. A perk to Ebates Rakuten is that you can  make money for referring friends. Use my referral link here to get $10 when you sign up and make your first qualifying purchase of $25+.  (amount subject to change)

Honey is is browser extension very similar to Ebates that allows you to find and apply the best coupons codes on the internet without searching the internet. You cannot combine Ebates and Honey on the same purchase. Honey sometimes has different coupon codes and percentages the Ebates so you can install both.

The Honey extension works best when shopping on Amazon. Honey tries to find the lowest price for the items your cart on Amazon so if you shop on Amazon a lot then you need to try Honey to see if you can save more.

I haven't used Honey a lot but I believe it works on a point system called Honey Gold. You get points for you purchases and can cash out when you have 1,000 points ($10). Supposedly Honey randomly gives customers surprise bonus points on purchase so you  never know. I'm not sure if you get points for using my referral link but you are welcome to try it when you sign up.

TopCashBack gives you the store's commission rate back when you shop through their website. Create an account on TopCashBack, find the store you are planning on shopping at and click the "cash back" button. Checkout and receive a percentage back on your purchase.

You can also receive random 100% cash back bonuses so you never know if your order will be free. There is no minimum to cash out meaning you can cash out at anytime. Use my referral link here to get $10 when you sign up and make your first qualifying purchase .  (amount subject to change)

There are several other cash back websites out there that you can try, theses are just the main ones I have tried out. I personally like Ebates Rakuten the best but I have heard from friends that they like Honey better so I recommend signing up for both and seeing which one you like best.
