This year for Halloween (2017) my family dressed up as Pac-man. I figured I will try to get in as many family Halloween costumes while I can before they start asking to dress up as what they want. We were a big hit with the adults and I was surprised at how many kids actually knew who we were and complemented us on our costumes. We even ended up winning a free pizza for having an awesome costume. Pac-man was not only a big hit but it was easy to make and it was cheap.
Supplies:
- White Felt
- Light Blue Felt
- Fabric Glue
- Solid T-shirts - Red, Blue, Pink & Orange
- 2 Yellow Poster Board
- Red Construction Paper & Glue Stick
- Black Sharpie
- Hole Punch
- String
- Fabric Scissors/ Scissors
- Optional: White Paper & Double Sided Tape
I had some of the supplies at home already but I believe I spent around $12 for the rest of the supplies. The main cost was the three t-shirts I bought for the ghost costumes. I bought the t-shirts from Walmart for $3-$4 each. You can also find cheap solid t-shirts at Hobby Lobby and Michaels. Keep in mind when buying the t-shirts that they need to be big on your kids so you may want to get adult sizes.
How To Make the Ghost
For those of you who may not know, the ghost are Pac-man's enemies who chase him around in the video game. There are four main ghost. Their original names are Shadow (red), Speedy (pink), Bashful (blue) and Pokey (orange) but they are more well known by their nicknames Blinky, Pinky, Inky and Clyde. There are several other ghost in Ms. Pac-man and spin offs which make this the perfect costume for big groups and families. I stuck with the original ghost though besides Clyde since I only have three kids. Here is how I made the ghost costumes:
1. Cut out big white ovals out of the white felt.
2. Cut out small blue circles out of the felt.
3. Using fabric glue, glue the blue circles to the white ovals to make them look like eyes. Let. Dry.
If you don't have any fabric glue you can use a sharpie or fabric marker to draw the pupils on the eyeballs.
4. Using fabric scissors, cut the bottom of the t-shirts off in a zig-zag pattern.
You can use regular scissors, fabric scissors just cut the material easier.
5. Using fabric glue, glue the eyes in the upper center of the t-shirts. Let Dry.
If you don't have fabric glue you can always sew the eyes onto the t-shirts. The fabric glue worked fine though. I even washed the t-shirts and the eyes stayed on.
6. Put the kids in some black pants and long sleeve shirts then put the ghost shirt over the black. Now you officially have some Pac-man ghost that are ready to chase Pac-man around.

How To Make Pac-man & Ms. Pac-man
1. Using a pencil, draw the shape of Pac-man on the poster board. Cut Out.
It may be easier to cut out the circle first then cut out the mouth to avoid accidentally tearing the poster board.
2. For Ms. Pac-man: Cut out a bow and lips out of red construction paper and glue it to the poster board.
3. Using a black sharpie, draw Pac-man's eye. Draw Ms. Pac-man's eye and beauty mark.
I drew an eye on both sides of Pac-man so he could be reversible for pictures. *See picture below.
4. Using a hole punch, punch two holes in the top of Pac-man and two holes in the top of Ms. Pac-man. Make sure to spread the holes out, about 10" apart.
5. Thread string through both of the holes and tie a knot. It should resemble a necklace. Repeat for both Pac-man and Ms. Pac-man.
6. Put on a black long sleeve shirt, some black pants, hang Pac-man/Ms. Pac-man from your neck and you are ready to go!
7. Optional: Cut out some white circles from white construction/computer paper and tape them to your sleeves and/or pants legs.
8. Optional: For Ms. Pac-man I added some accessories to try to look more like her. I wore a red bow and cherry earrings. I also used black eyeliner to make my eyes match the eyes I drew on the poster board and I wore red lipstick to match her lips. Here is a close up to give you a better look of my make-up and accessories.

As you can tell the Pac-man Family Costume is super easy to make. I was able to make all five costumes while my kids were down for a nap and as I'm sure any parent knows, toddlers don't usually take long naps.
Not only is the Pac-man Family Costume easy to make but it is budget friendly. I don't know about you but my favorite Halloween costumes are always the homemade ones. I don't know if it is just the creativity or the love that is put into homemade costumes but I always find them to be more appealing.
I think my favorite part of Halloween was playing live action Pac-man and having my little ghosts chase me around the yard. Feel free to check out some more pictures of our costumes below and let me know how your costume turns out in the comments!
