Since it's October and Halloween is just around the corner here is another past Halloween costume. Halloween 2012 my husband (boyfriend at the time) and I went as Mario and Luigi. The Mario and Luigi costumes are super easy to make and cost $20 - $25 total. You may even be able to make the costumes for less than that. Here is how I made our costumes:
Supplies:
- Red and Green Hat - $14 for both online
- Red and Green T-Shirt - Hobby Lobby or Micheals $6 Total
- Red and Green Stripe Socks - Sports Store $3
- White and Yellow Paper
- Green, Red and Black Markers
- Scissors and Tape
- 2 Mustaches of your choice
- 2 Suspenders - borrowed from friends
- White Gloves - Optional, We still had our Mickey and Minnie Costume gloves but ended up not wearing them
- Blue Jean Shorts
How to:
Hats:
Cut out two white circles. Draw a green "L" on one and a red "M" on the other. Put tape on the back and stick them on your hats. They sell Mario and Luigi hats at Halloween stores and online we just couldn't find any for cheap when we looked.
Mustaches:
You can make or buy any mustaches you prefer. Below are the two different types of mustache's we used.
Mustache 1: I made our mustaches out of construction paper, black pipe cleaners and chop sticks - all things I found lying around the house. I cut out paper in the shape of Mario and Luigi's mustaches and hot glued it to a chop stick. I them used black pipe cleaners and hot glued them over the paper to make the mustache's look more like hair. We carried these in our socks since our pockets weren't long enough.
Mustache 2: I drew mustaches on our pointer finger with a sharpie incase we forgot the other ones.
Overalls:
We borrowed two pairs of suspenders from friends and attached them to our blue jean shorts. I cut out four yellow circles and taped them to the suspenders. They may fall off depending on how much you move around. I didn't us enough tape so half of ours fell off. If you have access to real overalls or find some for cheap, wear them instead.
Get Dressed, pull your socks up high and don't forget to tuck in your shirts. Mario and Luigi were very easy costumes to put together and didn't really involve a lot of crafting. If you know how o use scissors and a glue gun then you will be good. The costumes didn't cost to much, the hats are what did us over but still $25 for two costumes isn't bad and you can wear the hats again. Hope you have a Happy Halloween!
