Diaper holders are one of those baby items you don't think you need until you need it. I have a love hate relationship with diaper holders. Both my daughter's and first son's bed sets included a fabric diaper holder that you hang from the side of the crib.

Since we didn't use half the items that came in the baby bed sets, I decided to just buy a two pack of fitted crib sheets and a changing pad cover to match when I was pregnant with my third child. I made some geometric wall decor and a geometric baby mobile to match the navy/whale theme.

I looked into some other nursery decor such as a crib skirt or a fabric diaper holder to hang from the crib but they easily ran $20 to $40 and I wasn't about to spend that much on items that weren't a necessity.

I still wanted somewhere to store the baby diapers that was convenient and affordable aside from leaving them in the diaper box. I was never a fan of hanging the fabric diaper holder on the crib because the diapers where never easy to access since the changing table was always on the other side of the room.

The fabric diaper holders looked nice and kept the diapers out of site which was a plus but the diapers were sometimes hard to get in and out of the fabric diaper holders. As I said, it was a love hate relationship.

Since I had stair step babies and always had at least two in diapers at the same time, I came up with an alternative diaper storage hack that was affordable, easy to hang and access. This diaper storage hack was the perfect solution to storing more diapers.

What you'll need:
  • Plastic Storage Crate with holes in it
  • 3 Washers
  • 3 Longer Screws
  • Drill

How To:
1. Find a Plastic Storage Crate you like and in a color that matches the theme of the nursery.
I bought this rectangular navy crate at Walmart for $3 something. The best time to find a variety of colors is when they release all the back-to-school and college dorm room supplies and decor.

2. Figure out where you want to hang the crate and find someone to help hold the crate in place.
Try to place the crate on a stud so that it will hold the weight of the diapers better.

3. Using the washers and the long screws, secure the plastic crate to the wall.
The washers act as a lip to hold the crate up. The screws secure and hold the crate in the wall.

4. Fill with diapers and enjoy!

Pictured below,  you can tell that the plastic crate aka my new diaper storage was conveniently located by the changing table, right above the diaper pail. This allowed for easy access to the diapers when changing baby.

I also loved that the crate had holes in it because I was able to hang a bottle of Febreze from one of the holes to make for an easy access air freshener.

If you don't want to buy a plastic crate or can't find one, you can cut the flaps off of a large diaper box and hang it on the wall the same way the crate was hung. The only down fall to using a box is it may tear over time and it won't be as sturdy as the plastic crate but since it will be holding diapers, it doesn't have to be super sturdy.

I would recommend decorating the diaper box with paint, paper or covering it in fabric so you can't tell it's a diaper box.

If you don't want to drill holes in the wall, you can easily set the plastic crate on top of something sturdy - changing table, dresser. If you set it on top of something, I recommend laying it so the longest side is flat against the surface so it is less likely to tip over.

When my third child was old enough, we decided to move him into a room with his brother and we gave my daughter her own room. Since we didn't have as much open room in the boys room, it was easier to just set the plastic crate on top of some storage containers we were using for blankets. My son also wasn't going through diapers as fast as a baby does so it worked out perfect!

Pictured below is the plastic crate sitting on top of a storage container.

There are several different ways to store diapers, this is just a simple solution I came up with to store our baby diapers. Whether you buy a diaper storage holder, make your own, or are gifted one, I hope you enjoy it and it works out great for you!

I'd love to know what you think about hanging the plastic crate on the wall to store diapers in. Did it work for you? Comment below!!!
