Last Halloween my family went with Safari themed costumes. All the costumes were pretty easy to make and ended up looking super cute when we were all together. My youngest went as the zebra in the group. His costume was super easy to make and cheap. It mainly consisted of duct tape and time.
Keep reading to find out how I made his costume.

If you need a last minute costume, this Zebra costume is perfect. If you're not big on zebras then you can easily use duct tape to make another costume or another animal (Tiger, Giraffe, Cheetah, Cow). Duct tape is definitely a go to when it comes to quick and easy costumes!
What you'll need:
- Black Pants and Top
- White Duct Tape
- Scissors
- Zebra Ears - Dollar Tree find!
- Zebra Tail - buy or make with yarn ***Yarn Tail Tutorial HERE***
- Black Face Paint or Eyeliner for the nose
*You can also use White pants and top with black duct tape if you prefer.
How To:
1. Lay the pants and top out on a flat surface.
2. Cut several strips of duct tape in a variety of lengths, widths, and patterns.
3. Stick the duct tape on the pants and top to make it look like Zebra stripes. Make sure to put duct tape on both the front, back and sides of the clothes.
The duct tape will come off the clothes as long as you don't wash it or get it wet. The longer the duct tape stays on the clothes, the harder it will be to get off and may leave a sticky residue.
I left the duct tape on my sons clothes for over a week because we went to a few Halloween events and where he ran around, there was some sticky residue left on the pants. Thankfully they weren't nice pants so I didn't care - hence why I used them to begin with. When I've left duct tape on clothing for a day or two there was no residue.
4. Add some Zebra ears and a tail, along with a black nose and your Zebra costume is complete!
Ears - I bought the ears for $1 at the Dollar Tree. You may be able to find an ear/tail set but I didn't have any luck. You can also make your own ears out of felt and a head band.
Tail - As I said above, you may be able to buy a Zebra ear/tail set. If not, you can easily make a tail out of yarn and a safety pin like I did.
Nose - I used eyeliner to draw on the nose. You can use eyeliner, eyeshadow, face paint, etc...

The Zebra costume cost a $1 because I already had all the supplies but the ears. If you don't have all the supplies, you can usually find cheap solid pants and tops at Walmart. Yarn and duct tape aren't super expensive and you will have plenty left over after you make your costume to use for another costume or craft.
My son loved being a Zebra for Halloween. He ran around galloping and laughing, it was hilarious. This costume was super easy to make and cute!
You can easily follow this tutorial to make a Zebra, Tiger, Giraffe, Cheetah or Cow costume. Of coarse you will need to get different color supplies and cut the duct tape in different shapes, but it is basically the same process.
