Last summer I decided to decorate my daughters room. She loves to draw and create so I tried to do a spin on an art wall. I had a pile of frames I had found in my mom's stuff/curb alerts so I pulled a few out that were similar in design and size and got to crafting.
Picture Frame Children's Art Wall
Supplies:
- Various size frames
- Spray Paint
- Hot Glue Gun
- String, Ribbon or Twine
- Tiny Clothes Pins
- Hammer & Nails
How To:
1. First you will need to wipe off the frames, especially if they were in storage or a curb alert.
2. Choose a color or two of spray paint and paint the frames. Let Dry.
3. Once dry, decide if the frame will be displayed Landscape (left to right) or Portrait (up & down). Put a small amount of hot glue and attach the string, ribbon, twine, etc... to the frame. Add a little more hot glue on top just to secure it.
4. Run the string across to the other side of the frame and cut it to size. Repeat Step #3.
5. Add two small clothes pins to the string to hold the art.
6. Hand your frames on the wall and display your child's art work however you or they want to!
To hang the frames, I put two nails in the wall on either side of the top to hold the frame. The frames are all light and thicker so they balance on the nails with no problems.
***Incase you don't know, the purple frames are Landscape and the blue frames are Portrait.
My daughter wanted me to make her a painting so I chose a saying and painted a floral painting. I was originally going to hang it on the same wall and make an art wall mixed with other decor so it would be similar to a collage wall but the painting fit perfect in the large blue frame so I decided to center it and frame it.
The best part about the art wall is that we can easily change the art when my daughter wants to hang something new on the wall and we don't have to worry about using tape that may pull off the paint or poking more holes in the wall with tacks.
This art wall was easy to make and affordable. The only cost to me was the mini clothes pins and the spray paint and I think I had the blue one left over from my wedding decor.
I already had the string, frames and hot glue gun.
If you don't have any frames, you may be able to find some cheap ones at yard sales, Goodwill, the Dollar Tree or flea markets. Keep an eye out on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace for them as well or curb alerts that may have them.
I limited my daughter's art wall to four frames but you can use as many as you'd like. Check out the finished wall:

My daughter's bed is full of pillows, stuffed animals and blankets, I just removed them when I tool a picture since the focus was on the art wall and not a bed full of plush toys!
I hope your child loves their art wall! I'd love to know what colors you decided to go with in the comments below or see a picture of the completed art wall. You can share a picture with me on Pinterest's "Tried It" or Facebook!
