A few years ago, my mother-in-law bought the kiddos a play-set for Christmas. While the kids love to swing and play on the play-set we unfortunately received a damaged play-set in an open treadmill box. Why a treadmill box??? I have no idea.
Needless to say we had to re-order several pieces, ran into several problems and got nowhere with customer service so we definitely will not be going through Backyard Discovery Playsets again but aside from that, the kids got a play-set that they love to play on!
I wanted to make the play-set a little more fun and personalized for my kids so we decided to add a wheel, some peek through toys and I made this cool tic-tac-toe sign to add above the play kitchen area.
This is a simple and cheap way to help spice up your kid's play-set. It makes the play-set more fun and more personal.
To make the sign, I used a piece of broken wood that came with the original play-set, cut it down to size, and drilled three holes in it. You could easily use a piece of scrap wood, pallet wood or buy a small piece of wood if needed.
I then cut some pool noodles up that I had lying around and drew X's and O's on both sides of the pool noodles with a black paint pen.
I used some yellow waterproof rope I already had to string through the pool noodles and back up through the drilled holes. I knotted the rope on the back side of the sign.
I then used colorful paint pens to add the words, "Land of make believe". Once dry I sprayed some Mod Podge sealing spray over the words to help them last longer since it would be outside.
Once the sign was done, my husband hung it above the play kitchen on the play-set. We added a chair, brought out some play food and sat back as the kids enjoyed their updated play area.
You can paint any saying you'd like on the sign. I loved the saying, "Land of make believe" because kids have crazy imaginations and can pretend to be anything they want to be when they play. So far our play-set has been a boat, rocket ship and a restaurant so it is definitely a "land of make believe".
Some other sayings you could use for a sign are:
- "Adventureland"
- "Adventure Awaits"
- "Keep Out"
- "Kid's Only"
- "No Girls Allowed" or "No Boys Allowed"
- "(Kid's Name)'s Fort", "(Kid's Name)'s Clubhouse" or "(Kid's Name)'s Place"
- "Play Yard Rules..."
- "Play Zone"
You could even go with a themed saying if your kids are big into pirates, fairies, princesses, cowboys, etc. The possibilities are endless if you use your imagination, I'm sure you can come up with something great.
I'd love to see how your play-set sign turns out. You can share a picture with me on Pinterest's "Tried It" or Facebook!
