Magical Unicorn Birthday Party

My daughter recently celebrated her fifth birthday. She has been into unicorns lately so we decided to throw her a unicorn party.

Last year my daughter asked for a pony party after I had already planned a Tutti-Frutti party so needless to say this unicorn party was long overdue. I made several decorations, the cake, and tried to match the food to the theme.

The Unicorn theme is in style right now so it was super easy to buy gifts for my daughter. It would also be super easy to buy all the decor but since I'm on a budget and love crafting I decided to make everything I could.

The Outfit

Since it was my daughter's 5th birthday I wanted her to have a cute birthday outfit. We bought her a unicorn shirt and I made her a tutu to match the colors in the shirt.

She was a butterfly for Halloween so the tutu was made a few months prior. We also bought her a unicorn headband to wear. She picked out necklaces and a light-up wand go with it.

She ended up looking like a unicorn princess for her 5th birthday!

The Food

For the food we pretty much put sprinkles on almost everything to make it more "magical" looking. We also had items that were in the shape of a horn (Veggie Straws, Pretzels, Pigs in a Blanket). We stuck mainly appetizers due to the time of the party.

The Magical Unicorn food consisted of:

• Pink Popcorn Mix - Strawberry wafer cookies, pastel M&Ms, pink sprinkles
• Fruit & Fruit Pizza
• Sour Grapes - Grapes dipped in jello mix
• Peanut Butter Cookies with kisses on top covered in pastel sugar sprinkles
• Chocolate Fudge covered in Sprinkles
• Chocolate Covered Pretzels
• Unicorn Gummies
• Colored Gold Fish
• Colored Veggie Straws
• Mini Pigs in a Blanket
• Ice-cream Cone Cupcakes

The Beverages

We had the basic beverages:

• Water
• Several 2-liters
• Sweet Tea
• Unicorn Punch: 2L of 7up, Light Blue Hawaiian Punch & Cotton Candy Ice-cream

I also set out some twisty straws I had that matched the color scheme. 

The Cake

My daughter wanted a strawberry cake so she got a strawberry unicorn cake. The cake was layered strawberry, chocolate, strawberry.

I used the leftover chocolate cake mix to make ice cream cone cupcakes that we dipped in sprinkles. I tried my best at one of the most failed cakes and I think I succeeded although I wish the icing mane was a little thicker but everybody loved it.

The Decorations

I tried to stick to the colors purple, blue, pink, and yellow. My daughter saw a piñata on a cartoon and asked for one so I decided to make her a unicorn piñata. Later I found out she only wanted the candy.

I drew unicorn faces on brown paper bags and wrote the kids unicorn names on them along with "Thank You" on the back of the bag.  The bags were used to collect the candy and toys in the piñata.

You can find unicorn name generators through a quick internet search.

My daughter decorated her own candy bag and gave her unicorn some cool rainbow hair!

I made unicorn faces out of construction paper and hung them around the food and on the wall behind the gifts.

I pulled out all the unicorn stuffed animals I could find which at the time wasn't that many and set them up on the tables and the couch as extra decor.

The ground was filled with balloons matching our theme.

I covered the window, the hallway entrance, and a few chairs with bed sheets backdrops that I had made as our wedding decor.

Our Elf on the shelf, Luna decorated the bathroom mirror with a unicorn face and the Christmas tree with more streamers.

            

I made and printed out two 5x7 signs with unicorn sayings on them and set them up around the food.

I wanted a coloring section for the kids but my printer quit working shortly after I printed the signs in the frames so I asked my mother-in-law if she could print out some unicorn coloring pages. She made cute unicorn coloring books for the kids to color with glitter crayons.

I added a horn and eyes to a tissue box and filled it with crayons. It's a simple and easy way to decorate. You could easily make the tissue boxes look more like a unicorn. Check out these Monster Tissue Boxes!

Overall it was a really good party. My daughter got a ton of unicorn items from unicorn shirts to unicorn stuffed animals to unicorn necklaces and toys. She even got some vegetables from her uncle because we joked about throwing her a Vegetable Party since she had a Fruit Party last year.

The Unicorn theme is a super cute party theme and it is easy to do because of all the colors that go with unicorns. You can easily make decorations like I did or buy some since the unicorn theme is very popular right now. I hope your little one's party turns out as magical as my daughters did!
