I'm not huge on politics but if Kentucky Governor Matt Blevin refers to teachers as selfish and ignorant about wanting their pensions that were promised to them then what does that make him?
see video clip here

Everybody that has become anybody was taught by somebody.

A teacher is a leader, an encourager, someone who helps mold minds and create inspiration. Without teachers then there would be no learning or skills taught.

Teachers clearly don't work for the money being as they barley make a dime and use their own out of pocket funds for supplies, snacks and even clothing for students. Teachers teach because they love what they do or they love helping the children. Teachers and schools help keep kids off the streets. If we didn't have teachers then what would your kids be doing from 7:30-3:30? Several students have a horrible home life and rely on schools to feed them, shelter them and teach them. They seek the social connection they can't get at home.

By taking away a teacher's pension you will chance loosing good teachers to other job fields which can lead to negatively impacting our education system that you are so strongly trying to improve. There are other ways for the state to make money that doesn't involve breaking the promise made and taking away a teacher's pension. So teachers rise up. Rise up above bad mouthing the governor. Rise up against the rioting. Rise up and be the role models that you know you are and TEACH the state that there are other ways to earn money instead of taking your pension.

Possible ways the state can save money include:
  • Cut back on the money set aside for state governors and their retirement (it's only fair right?)
  • Cut back on government advertisements and fancy banquets
  • Tolls on the main Interstate (I-75)
  • Require drug tests before giving out government benefits (SNAP, Medicaid)
  • Charging people for Narcan
  • Actually fine people $500 for littering (including cigarette butts)
  • Solar power government buildings
  • Enforce recycling and create benches and play-sets from the recycled plastic
  • Move the budget around, maybe pull from the tobacco fund (Kentucky Budget)
  • Build a government run Casino where the profit is split between casino funding and government funding to help give back to the people (not sure if this is even do-a-ble but Casinos bring in a lot of profit)
There are tons of ways the state could save money and make a profit if they just tried. Feel free to comment with more ways the state can save money instead of stealing a teacher's pension. Please keep it clean.

I am not personally a teacher although I use to be a substitute teacher but my husband, my mother and my brother are all teachers. My sister-in-law is studying to become one and I have several teacher friends.

“Teachers Rise Up” is a design created by local Kentucky public school art teacher and artist, Jason Williams. This design features a raised fist in protest, gripping an Apple symbolic of teachers, and what once was given as payment by those who could not offer monetary payment. “Teachers Rise Up” is to encourage all teachers everywhere to rise up and stand united together, to enact change for the betterment of public education, their students, families, and personal livelihoods. Teachers, rise up and stare in the face of adversity! Make your cause known and fight for what is right!
