If your family is like mine, you go outside a lot and during the summer it is always nice to have a pair of sunglasses on hand. I would usually leave a pair of sunglasses sitting in our garage for easy access when my kids want to go for a walk instead of always having to unlock the car to grab a pair but with little ones running around, my sunglasses always seemed to get misplaced so I came up with a solution, a sunglass holder. This wood sunglass holder is cheap, convenient and easy to make. I
already had all the supplies on hand so I didn't have to spend any extra money.

Supplies:

  • Piece of wood - I used a 15½ x 3½ piece of pallet wood
  • Sander or Sand Paper
  • Drill
  • Acrylic Paint
  • Paint Pen
  • Gloss Spray - Optional
  • Ribbon, Yarn, Twine, Shoe Lace or Wire - I used a piece of leather shoe lace we had left over
  • Wall Hanger and Hammer
  • Sunglasses

How To:

1. Cut a piece of wood to the size you like. (I used a 15½ x 3½ piece of pallet wood)

2. Drill two holes in the wood piece. One hole on either side of the wood - 1" from the edge.

3. Sand the wood piece and wipe off any extra dust.

4. Paint the wood piece a solid color and let dry.
I used acrylic, yellow paint to paint my wood piece since yellow represents the sun and sunshine. You can use any color paint you prefer.

5. Using a paint pen, write a cute saying on the wood slice. Let Dry.

I wrote "bring on the SUNSHINE" on my wood piece but you can personalize yours anyway you want, leave it blank or add a cool pattern.

Sayings you could write on your wood piece:
  • "Bring on the SUNSHINE"
  • "There's no such thing as too many sunglasses"
  • "My future's so bright I need shades"
  • "It's gonna to be a bright sun shiny day"
  • "May the Sunshine be with you"
  • "Chase the Sun"
  • "Let your light shine"
  • "Shine On"
  • "Hello Sunshine"

6. Optional: Spray the wood slice with a gloss spray to help seal the paint and let dry. I sprayed mine to help keep the dirt and dust from building up on it because we put it in the garage.

7. Add a piece of Ribbon, Yarn, Twine, Shoe Lace or Wire to the wood slice. (I used a piece of a left over leather shoe lace we had recently bought.) Thread your string through one hole, bring the string across the front of your wood piece and thread the string through the other hole, tying it in the back.

8. Add a hanger and hang the Sunglass Holder on the wall.
I used a sawtooth hanger to hang the Sunglass Holder.

9. Add your sunglasses and enjoy!

The Sunglass Holder is cheap, convenient an easy to make. It would make a great gift, a great decoration or a great addition to anyone's home that loves sunglasses. The Sunglass Holder helps you organize your sunglasses, it helps keep them from getting tossed everywhere and possibly breaking, and it helps you keep track of your sunglasses so you don't have to spend extra time wondering where you or your little one left them.
