So the craziness of March Madness just came to an end and the winner was Duke so congratulations to whoever called that one. Since I live in Kentucky I decided to join almost everybody else and chose UK vs. Duke in the NCAA championship with UK winning, but if you follow basketball, UK lost in the final four. I even said when I was making my bracket that I didn't think UK was going to win so I should of listened to that little voice in my head and chose Duke but oh well, at least I didn't have money on it, but I did have a home cooked dinner on it.

Before the NCAA games started, my husband printed off two brackets and gave me one. He told me to fill it out and the loser makes the winner a dinner and dessert of their choice. I was like okay, why not. It sounded like fun and it was something my husband came up with so I was game. I knew nothing about any of the teams other than UK hadn't lost a game yet so I based my bracket off the teams win to loose ratio not knowing the other numbers were their projected win order - NCAA bracket newbie here.

We were pretty close point wise but I had Duke going to the playoffs so I ended up winning 111 to 108 once we added up all our points so now my husband gets to cook me a dinner and dessert of my choice.  My husband usually cooks dinner for us though so I think he was planning on me losing the bet but oh well he just said to pick something difficult because he's up for a challenge.

I'm not sure what meal I finally decided on since it has been a while but I'm sure it was something along the lines of pot roast or teriyaki chicken. I do remember choosing oreo cheesecake bars as the dessert though, yum!

How does the March Madness date work?
The March Madness date is really simple to do and cheap if you are on a budget. It also allows you and your significant other to spend some quality time with each other since there are a TON of basketball games to watch. We didn't watch all of them but several of them were up on the television while we were busy doing other things so we at least listened to the games.

1. Print off two brackets

2. Fill out the brackets - don't forget to pick a score incase you tie point wise.

3. Keep track of the winning teams - we highlight the winners to make it easier to follow. If you miss a game you can check the scores online.

4. Add up your points for the winning teams only - you can choose any point system you want. We kept out point system simple with:
         - First Four 1 pt
         - Second Round 2pts
         - Third Round 3pts
         - Sweet 16  4pts
         - Elite Eight 5pts,
         - Final Four 6pts
         - Championship 7pts

In the case of a tie, use your final score guess to decide. Tie breaker = closest guess to final score

5. The loser must fulfill the winner's bet.
We usually bet that the loser cooks the winner a dinner and dessert of their choice but you can choose anything you want to bet from laundry for a month to cleaning the house, diaper duty or a pre planned date night. Be creative and find a simple and cheap bet that suits your relationship.

Maybe you missed March Madness this year or the season is almost over, well that's okay you can bet on the final games or just keep this date in mind for next year. This date is a simple way for you to bond with your significant other. Even if you aren't huge into watching sports like me, I still recommend giving it a try. You'd be surprised at how happy you'd be if you won!

My husband and I have participated in this date since 2015 when Duke won and I originally made this post! According to my husband I have won the last three years. I personally don't follow basketball where as he does and I have won so you don't need to follow basketball to participate in this date.

You can also turn it into a family competition and have your children fill out a bracket. My children are toddlers so my husband color coordinated their bracket and asked them what color they liked just to see how they would do but if your children are older this is an awesome way for them to participate in some family fun. You can let them bet their chores for the week or month to keep it more simple or have everyone pick out a family fun day full of events and the winner wins their family fun day. (Examples: Movies and Ice cream, Theme Park, Museum, Toy of their choice, Laser Tag and Pizza)
