Space Birthday Party

Two of my boys were born in October so we decided to throw another double birthday party for them. Last years theme was APPLES, this years theme was SPACE! I tried to put a spin on space words to match the boys ages. I had "Two the moon" and " 5, 4, 3, 2, 1... Bla5t Off". A Space party is a great gender neutral party theme and there are so many different things you can do with the space theme from decorations to food. The party I threw was geared toward a second birthday and fifth birthday but the theme would work great with any age.

This year I was fortunate enough to receive a Printable Space Party Kit from Pigsy Party to help decorate our home for the boys space party.

The printable Space Party kit from Pigsy included several printable and editable decorations from a party invitation to cake toppers, cupcake toppers, food labels, drink labels, thank you labels, a banner, and wall decorations. Once I personalized the documents to my liking, I was able to download and print them out for my party. After lots and lots of cutting, my decorations were ready to be put to use. This printable kit was definitely a time savor because I didn't have to design everything my self.

Below are some of the printable's I used for the boys Space Party. Aren't they out of this world adorable?!?! I personalized the banner with my sons names but you can easily have it say "Happy Birthday". Keep scrolling to see how I used the printable party kit mixed with some of my party ideas!

The Outfit
I bought the boys matching space outfits from Shein. They had several affordable, cute space clothing for kids, just make sure to check the spelling because I noticed some of the planets spelling was wrong on some of their shirts. The outfits I bought felt more like pajamas when they came in and I had to size up, but they worked great for the party. Aren't the boys cute in their matching outfits?!?!

The Food
I love coming up with food ideas to match party themes and making fun labels. The space food labels are part of the Printable Space Kit I got from Pigsy Party. I was able to customize them with the party food names I wanted!

The party food consisted of:

  • Moon Munchies - carrots, cucumbers, and ranch dip. If you want to go all out, you can cut your veggies in the shape of moons and stars.
  • Moon Rocks - Caramel Rice Crisps
  • Shooting Stars - Red, White, & Blue Star Cereal (4th of July themed cereal) mixed with Red, White, & Blue Sour Patch Kids (4th of July Bag).
  • Saturn's Rings - Peach Ring Gummies
  • Pretzel Rockets - Creme Filled Chocolate Wafer Rods. I was going to make chocolate covered pretzel sticks but bought the Wafer Rods instead.
  • Space Worms - Gummy Worms
  • Star Bursts - Star Burst Candy
  • Astroids - Cheese Balls
  • Crater Cookies - Chocolate Chip Cookies
  • Pizza & Wings from Little Caesars

Some other possible space themed food ideas are:

  • Moon Pies
  • Galatic Goodies - MilkyWays Candy Bars, Star Bursts, Rock Candy, Pop Rocks
  • Fruit Rockets - fruit on kebab skewers
  • Galaxy Popcorn - Popcorn Mix with colorful chocolate, sprinkles, etc...
  • Galaxy Bark - colorful chocolate bark
  • Galaxy Fudge - colorful fudge
  • Constellations - Pretzels & Marshmallows to build your own
  • Mini Sandwiches in the shape of stars, moons, or rockets
  • Homemade Rice Krispie Treats in the shape of stars and moons
  • Planets - Donuts, Trix Cereal
  • Alien Jello - put candy eyeballs in the jello

You can pretty much use any food that you can make in the shape of stars, planets, moons, and rockets. You can also add candy eyes to almost any food and call it an Alien. Depending on the time of year, you may be able to find food in the shape of stars such as goldfish, crackers, cereal, or cookies.

The Cupcakes
I made chocolate cupcakes. I let the kids frost the cupcakes with vanilla frosting and sprinkles. I then added the homemade cupcake toppers to the cupcakes. The planets, stars, and rockets are part of the Pigsy Party Printable. I cut them out and taped a toothpick to the back so I could put them in the cupcakes. These cupcakes were super easy to make and they looked adorable!

The Beverages
We had a variety of drinks to choose from:
  • Rocket Fuel Punch
  • Individual Kool Aid with labels on them
  • 2Liters
  • Water

The labels on the Kool Aid are part of the Pigsy Party Printable. They are made for water bottles, but I cut them shorter and put them on a few of the kids drinks. I was able to personalize the drink labels. I put both my boys names on them with their age along with "2 the moon" and "Bla5t Off".

The Decorations
Several of the decorations came from the Printable Space Party Kit from Pigsy Party that I showed off above. Here are a few other decorations I had at the party:

The boys have matching glow in the dark space blankets I set out along with our "Love you to the moon and back" pillow.

I used a silver table cloth and added some blue stones and cut out stars to decorate the table along with a  sparkly "Happy Birthday" banner I already had.

The other decorations consisted of a personalized banner with the boys names on it along with printable planets and rockets from Pigsy Party pictured above.

I bought a galaxy table cloth, "To the Moon" banner, and space napkins from Target. I added a balloon arch using different shades of blue, red, black, and silver balloons. I made space helmet photo props out of poster paper. Once I put it all together, it made an adorable background for pictures and gift opening. If you wanted to get really creative, you could make a large rocket out of cardboard boxes to add to the photo area.

Games & Activities
I came up with a few games and activities for the kids to play. There are several other game ideas and actives out there if you don't like these from moon rock hunts to meteor tosses.

The first game I made was called "Alien Toss". I made the game out of pool rings, ribbon, and construction paper. I stapled the ribbon around the pool rings, added a point system, and hung it. I used some alien looking pool toys to toss through the pool rings. Whoever gets the most points wins.

The second game is called "Space Bounce". I set some decorated tubs on the steps and the goal was to toss or bounce the bouncy balls into the tubs. I had several bouncy balls but if you want to stick to the theme, they had space themed bouncy balls at Target in the party section.

The third game/ activity was called "Build a Rocket". I used our magnetic blocks and created a "Build a Rocket" station. The kids all created a fun rocket out of the magnetic blocks. I think this was a crowd favorite! If you don't have magnetic blocks you can use toilet paper rolls, paper, pom poms, etc... to build a rocket or just have the kids draw a rocket on paper.

Goodie Bag / Thank You Gift
The "Thank You" gift tags are part of the Printable Space Kit I got from Pigsy Party. The gift tags say, "Thank you for making my party such a blast!". I used a hole punch and some ribbon to attach them to the gifts. The "Thank You" gifts were full size bags of M&M's for the adults and a space bath bomb, toothbrush & toothpaste for the kids.

You can also make a Goodie Bag full of space themed candy like StarBursts, MilkyWays, Rock Candy, Pop Rocks, Moon Pies, etc... to hand out to your guests.

The boys had a BLAST at their SPACE party. They were both blessed with several gifts from clothes to legos to a Bluey house, Pokemon cards, and more! I think their favorite part was having everyone down to visit and the games. Needless to say the kids had plenty of sugar and excitement to kick off our fall break, Overall I think it's safe to say they had a good time.

Special thanks to Pigsy Party for supplying me with the Printable Space Party Kit. Go check them out if you are looking for a printable party kit. They have several different party themes!
